Pumpkin Carving Fun!

We finally had a quiet Saturday night with nothing to do, so the boys decided we should make some jack-o-lanterns! What a hoot! They drew the faces on their pumpkins (Landon had Mommy draw his) and Jeff did the cutting. This was the first time we have carved pumpkins with the boys, and they were both disgusted by the "pumpkin guts!" LOL! They did finally get their pumpkin guts scooped out, but Jeff did most of the work. During our festivities, Logan told us everything that he knew about jack-o-lanterns, and Landon entertained us with a song about scary pumpkins that he learned at preschool. In the end, both boys were proud of their jack-o-lanterns, so we lit them with a candle and took them outside. Chances are they will be rotten by Halloween, but they sure look good tonight!

Logan's Pioneer Pillar Award!

Today we had a "proud" moment for Logan because he received a Pioneer Pillar award from his teacher at the school Character assembly! Each month, teachers choose students from their classroom to receive Pioneer Pillar awards, and they choose kids who have been demonstrating good behavior and good work. The principal of our school hands these awards out to the kids at an all-school assembly in our gym, and parents and grandparents usually attend, so it's a pretty big deal to the kids! Logan's teacher, Mrs. Leiss, wrote on Logan's award that "Logan is a Pioneer Pillar because he is a kid of character everywhere and all of the time! Logan makes great choices and works very hard to complete kindergarten quality work!" Since I work at the school, of course I got to see him get his award, but Daddy and Grandpa Mick were able to attend the assembly as well! Pretty special, Logan! We are so proud of Logan and how well he behaves and works at school! Now, if only he would behave that way at home... ;=)

OES Fall Festival 2010

Tonight we took the boys to the anual Fall Festival at Okoboji Elementary School! They've been so excited all week, as this is always the first time they get to wear their Halloween costumes for the season! They had fun trick-or-treating through the hallways, playing games in the gym, strolling through the Halloween courtyard, and we even went through the Haunted Hallway! The boys were scared crazy, and even Mom jumped and screamed a few times! I don't think I'll get them to go through the Haunted Hallway again until they are a little older! LOL! Anyway, we had a blast, and the boys came home with a bucket full of candy that none of us really need! Tis the season, right?!

Farming with Grandpa Mick!

Every fall, when my dad helps a local farm family, the Titterington's, with harvest, the boys get to go out and ride on the tractor with Grandpa Mick! They have been looking forward to this ALL week (more like all year), and they had so much fun! It's amazing how well they behave on that tractor! Maybe I ought to get us one because they surely don't behave very well at home! Haha!

Pumpkin Patch 2010

Since we had Landon's birthday party last night, my mom and I decided to take the boys to the pumpkin patch in Lakefield, MN for his actual birthday today! This is a yearly trip that we take, but this year it worked out great to fall on Landon's bday! The boys always enjoy all that there is to do there: playgrounds, walking mazes, Storybook Land, farm animals to visit, indoor play area with Pumpkin Patch bean bag toss, basketball hoop, and several other toys, tricycle racing track, barrel train, and a hayride to the pumpkin field to pick our very own pumpkins! Whew! It's always a fun time and something we look forward to near the beginning of each October. We also enjoyed a nice lunch at Poppe Pumpkin Patch Cafe before we headed home, and the weather was a little chilly, but beautiful! Now that we have our pumpkins, it's time for the boys to start thinking about what they are going to be for Halloween! Nothing is final yet, but it sounds like we could have a couple of Hawkeyes or hunters trick-or-treating this year...of course, they will change their minds several times before that day, so we'll have to wait and see!
