Winter Games Weekend!

Another Winter Games weekend in our area, and we're looking forward to our annual traditions!  We stick to the kid-friendly events for now, while our kids are young...we don't do anything too wild and crazy (even though there are plenty of wild and crazy events available to participate in this weekend)!  :)

Each year, we kick off our weekend with the Boy Scout pancake breakfast (run by my dad, who is the Milford Boy Scout leader)!  There are no pancakes better!

The next tradition started last year, and I don't know how many more years we'll get to do it because the boys are getting too big, but Polaris offers free snowmobile rides for kids.  They have several kid-sized snowmobiles out in the lawn by their plant, and kids can go there and drive them on a snowmobile track that Polaris employees have made!  They teach the kids how to run the snowmobiles and then let them go drive them for a few rounds on the course.  This year, the boys didn't ride the snowmobiles as many times as last year because they got too cold, but they still had a blast!  Jeff says it's probably time to think about buying an older, full-size snowmobile or two for the boys, but I think that's a few years down the road yet!  Plus we have no where to store them at the moment with our puny one-car garage!  :)

Another tradition, at least for Jeff, which also started last year, is to run the Winter Games 5k!  Last year he ran it also, and it was the first 5k he registered for after losing around 180 pounds!  He's running it again this year, and hoping to do better than last year (which he did pretty well)!  We will see!  It's pretty cold and windy here today, so that will make the run a little rough for him.  We're just proud of him for going and doing this event!

Tonight, we will go to Arnold's Park and watch the "burning of the greens" and the fireworks over the frozen lake!  This is our favorite part of Winter Games Weekend, however, it is also usually the coldest part of the weekend.  Tonight will be extra cold, but extra special as my cousin, Dallas, is singing the National Anthem for the event (and it happens to be her 19th birthday, too)!

It will be a fun weekend, but also a weekend of rest as Logan is just finally starting to feel better after being sick for a whole week, and I took Landon to the doctor today and found out that he has the beginning of strep throat.  Yuck!  At least antibiotics can help him feel better.  We are thankful that it is nothing worse and that he is still feeling well enough to have some fun!  We are also thankful for Lakes Convenient Health Care for being open on the weekends so we could be seen and get him medicine right away today!
